Breast lift (with or without prostheses)
Often the breasts can be lifted simply by placing prostheses. This is the case when the breast shows less volume, but the excess skin is not too big and the nipple is still above the breast fold.
When the breasts sag so much that the nipple is under the breast fold, a breast lift may be a better solution. Depending on the volume of your breasts and your personal wishes, this procedure can be combined with the placement of prostheses, for more volume, or to reduce the size of your breasts. Also if the breasts are a bit too large or uneven, this can be corrected during the breast lift by removing some glandular tissue.
The intervention
Through an incision around the areola, from the areola to the breast fold and sometimes also in the breast fold, the fatty and glandular tissue is remodeled. The excess skin is removed and the areola is reduced in size. The nipple and areola remain connected to the glandular tissue but are positioned higher.
We usually place drains to allow excess wound fluid from the first few days to drain away.
The procedure takes approximately 2 hours and is always performed under general anesthesia.
After the procedure
The wound will be covered with a shower plaster and you will be given a special support bra that you will have to wear day and night for a month. This will support the new shape of your breasts and limit swelling.
When you are awake enough to leave the recovery room, you will go to your room in the day clinic. You can go home the same day, but with a driver!
We will give you a letter with tips and instructions to ensure a smooth healing process.
The drains will be removed after a maximum of 3 days, the stitches after a week. You will receive an appointment for this.
The result
The breasts take a few weeks to return to their natural shape. The scars fade from a pink line to a fine white line.
