Breast lift (with or without implants)
In many cases, the breasts can be easily lifted by inserting implants. This is typically the case when the breasts have lost volume, but there isn’t too much excess skin and the nipple is still above the inframammary fold.
When the breasts sag to the point that the nipple is below the inframammary fold, a breast lift may be a better solution. Depending on the volume of your breasts and your personal preferences, this procedure can be combined with the insertion of implants to increase volume or to reduce the size of your breasts. Even if the breasts are slightly too large or uneven, this can be corrected during the breast lift by removing some glandular tissue.
The procedure
Through an incision around the areola, extending from the areola to the breast crease and sometimes also within the breast crease, the fat and glandular tissue are reshaped. Excess skin is removed, and the areola is reduced in size. The nipple and areola remain attached to the glandular tissue but are repositioned higher.
We usually place drains to allow excess wound fluid to drain during the first few days.
The procedure takes approximately 2 hours and is always performed under general anesthesia.
After the procedure
The incision will be covered with a shower plaster and you will be given a special support bra that you will have to wear day and night for a month. This will support the new shape of your breasts and minimize swelling.
When you are awake enough to leave the recovery room, you will go to your room in the day clinic. You can go home the same day, but you must have a driver!
We will give you a letter with tips and instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
The drains will be removed after a maximum of 3 days, the stitches after a week. You will receive an appointment for this.
The result
The breasts take a few weeks to return to their natural shape. The scars fade from a pink line to a fine white line.
